Committee membership was decided at the November 29, 2007 Council meeting. 

Standing Committees

Note: The Council Chairman is a member of all standing committees ex officio.

Regional Planning

Responsible for formulation and review of plans, strategies, bylaws and policies under resource management and other resource related legislation.

Membership:  Emeritus Prof. Bob Kirk [Chair] and all councillors.

Regional Land Transport

Responsible for the Regional Land Transport Strategy, the annual Regional Land Transport Programme, strategic planning for a safe and efficient regional transport system, and the promotion and coordination of road safety activities.

Membership: Jo Kane [Chair], Carole Evans, Mark Oldfield, Sir Kerry Burke. Plus appointed members (to be confirmed).

Regulation Hearing Committees  (2 Committees) (2 Chairs)  

Responsible to appoint Resource Consent Hearing Committees; to consider and decide resource consent applications in accordance with delegated powers; and to exercise such other powers as delegated by Council.

Membership: Alec Neill [Chair], plus other councillors in rotation.

Membership: Angus McKay [Chair], plus other councillors in rotation.

Regulation Overview Committee

Responsible for overseeing quaterly reports on specific regulatory activities, preparation of the regional environment report, the annual enforcement activities report and the annual compliance report.

Membership: Regulation Hearing Committee Chair, plus all councillors.

Chief Executive Performance Review Committee

Membership: Sir Kerry Burke [Chair], Jo Kane, Emeritus Prof. Bob Kirk, Carole Evans, Pat Harrow, Alec Neill, Eugenie Sage.

Finance and Audit 

The purpose of this committee is to assist the Council to address audit, financial reporting and internal control issues.

Maori Advisory Committee 

The purpose of this committee is to provide a structure to enable the Council to engage with Maori.

Membership: Sir Kerry Burke [Interim Chair], Emeritus Prof. Bob Kirk, Eugenie Sage, Rik Tindall, Jane Demeter, Bronwen Murray, Carole Evans, plus representatives of Ngai Tahu and Nga Maata Waka.

Southern Committee

City/District Liaison

Responsible for district council liaison and discussion of sub-regional issues.

Northern Area

Membership: Ross Little [Chair], Jane Demeter, Jo Kane. 

Central Area

Membership: Eugenie Sage [Chair], Angus McKay, David Sutherland, Rik Tindall.

Christchurch Area Committee

Membership: Carole Evans [Chair] and all councillors representing Christchurch, plus Community Board and stakeholder nominees.
