About the committee
The Kaikōura Zone Committee is the eighth of ten zone committees to be established in Canterbury under the Canterbury Water Management Strategy (CWMS).
Zone commitees work collaboratively to develop effective water management implementation programmes in consultation with the local community. The programmes include strategies, tactics and activities to give effect to the principles and targets outlined in the CWMS.
The Kaikōura Zone Committee will operate as a joint committee of Environment Cantebury and the Kaikōura District Counil.

Committee member biographies
Tony Blunt
Tony farms an Inland Road property on the Kahutara River and helps cooridinate Kaikōra's annual A&P Show as well as the Young Farmer Contest.
Ted Howard
Ted is a self employed consultant with an environmental science background. He was a Kaikōura District Councillor from 2001-2004. Ted is also a member of various environmental organisations and President of the local Lions and Kaikōura Boating clubs.
Derrick Milton
Derrick has owned a 1151 ha beef and sheep farm in the Clarence Valley for more than 25 years. He also owns and operates a Lime Quarry at Clarence Bridge and is a founding member of ECCO, a member of Marlborough Federated Farmers and a member of the Kaikōura Pest Management and Liaison Committee.
Sarah Beardmore
Sarah is a school teacher who has lived beside the Clarence River for 14 years and is a keen river user. She is very active in her local community and has chaired the Woodbank School Board of Trustees for almost six years.
Matt Hoggard
Matt is strongly involved in the outdoors around Kaikōura and is passionate about local natural landscapes. As a district planner for Kaikōura District Council, Matt has extensive experience with resource consent applications. He is also treasurer for the Kaikōura Land Search and Rescue.
David Bedford
Davidmoved to Canterbury in 2005 following a corporate career in Australia and New Zealand. He now owns a small vineyard in North Canterbury and is also an Environment Canterbury Commissioner and the Chair of Enterprise North Canterbury. He has extensive experience in senior management, including human resources and change management.
Winston Gray
Winston was elected Mayor of Kaikōura in 2010. He was a sheep and beef farmer for many years before moving into Real Estate. Mayor Gray has been involved with numerous community organisations and is currently a committee member of the Kaikōura Rugby Club.
Gina Solomon
Gina was raised in Oaro and now lives in Peketa, Kaikōura. She is of Ngai Tahu and Ngati Kuri descent and has been involved with many Runanga businesses and organisationsm working mainly in the areas of education and the environment.
