More than 3000 resource consents are monitored in Canterbury each quarter. Every time a condition of a resource consent is monitored a compliance grade is recorded. The consent holder is notified of the grades for each condition by a compliance monitoring report. The compliance grades are assessed to determine the frequency of monitoring required. Consistent, full compliance with the conditions of a resource consent is likely to result in the consent holder being monitored less frequently. Conversely, persistent or major non-compliance is likely to result in enforcement action being initiated by Environment Canterbury.
March – June 2010
In the period 1 March to 30 June 2010 a total of 4105 consents were monitored for compliance with their conditions. Compliance monitoring during this period identified 224 persistent or significant non-compliances. Enforcement action has been taken on 21 consents, the majority coming from the Selwyn, Ashburton and Timaru District.
