  • Defining Aquaculture Management Areas from a Ngai Tahu Perspective
    Prepared for Environment Canterbury by Natural Resources Unit, Office of Te Rünanga o Ngai Tahu October 2002
    Aquaculture in New Zealand, especially mussel farming, is a rapidly growing industry. In some parts of the country it has grown too fast and with little control over where it should be allowed. As a result there are environmental and cultural problems occurring.

    This document contains the 2005 Navigation Safety Bylaws for all inland navigable waters and selected coastal waters in the Canterbury Region. It came into force on the 1st December 2005.

  • Identification Of Excluded Areas For Aquaculture In Canterbury
    As part of the process of planning for aquaculture development, the Regional Council has identified areas in the Coastal Marine Area where no Aquaculture Management Areas can be established. Other areas of the CMA can be developed if and when the Council proceeds to invite Private Plan Changes through the process set out in the Resource Management Act.

  • Lyttelton Harbour Seabed Contamination Reports
    This report  presents a summary of the work undertaken to date by the Cawthron Institute (Cawthron 1995, 1996, including a summary by Kingett-Mitchell and Associates, Kingett-Mitchell, 1996), and of the report prepared by the OCEL/ESR/NIWA team for Environment Canterbury.The summary identifies the extent of sediment contamination and discusses the results of the toxicity tests undertaken by NIWA (CRC, 1997). In addition, the potential for sediment
    migration within and outside the harbour area is also presented.

  • Northern Pegasus Bay Coastal Management Plan
    Prepared by: The Northern Pegasus Bay Coastal Management Plan Steering Committee. September 2008. In April/May 2006, public meetings held at Waikuku Beach Hall resolved that a management strategy was needed for the Northern Pegasus Bay Coastal Area, to integrate the work and results desired by the Waimakariri and Hurunui District Councils, Environment Canterbury, Department of Conservation, and the residents and community groups in the coastal settlements.

  • Northern Pegasus Bay Motor Vehicle Access Strategy This strategy refers to northern Pegasus Bay, which is the coastal area between the Waimakariri River mouth and "The Rocks" (north of the Waipara River). This stretch of coast is one of few sandy beach environments in Canterbury, and the only stretch of coast near Christchurch accessible to vehicles.

  • Regional Coastal Environment Plan
    This plan promotes the sustainable management of the natural and physical resources of the Coastal Marine Area and the coastal environment and its integrated management. It sets out the issues relating to protection and enhancement of the coast, water quality, controls on activities and structures and coastal hazards.
