Home Water Heating Links

There are many organisations that provide information, advice, assistance and incentives on home water heating. The following organisations can be useful if you are considering changes in home water heating:

Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority  (EECA) is a government agency that promotes energy efficiency and renewable energy in New Zealand.

• The EnergyWise webpage has some information about hot water.
• EECA have launched a separate website about solar water heating  (SWH)
• A PDF download of an online guidebook about SWH  (  1.4MB) 
• The brochure (2006)  “getting warmer by degrees”  (  1.4MB) – a homeowner’s guide to energy savings and comfortable, healthier living

The Solar Industries Association  is the ‘parent’ body of solar water heating system suppliers and installers and there is a list of members (including 6 from Christchurch) online.

Christchurch-based Thermocell  produce on-roof and in-roof home solar hot water heating systems.

SmarterHomes  (2007) is a site to promulgate information about healthy, affordable homes for better living. Commissioned by the Ministry for the Environment, the Department of Building and Housing, Consumer’s Institute and Beacon Pathway, it has information about water heating  and usage of solar power.

Solar Action  is an exclusively renewable energy advocacy group, with a focus on sustainable energy use and development. They create a bulletin with information on important development on the use of renewable energy in NZ and around the world – old issues can be obtained online. Issue 78 (December 2006) has useful information about solar water heating.
