Environment Canterbury has information on clean home heating, insulation, energy efficiency, PICTURE Home water heating accounts for the second highest proportion of the average yearly New Zealand household’s energy bill according to research undertaken by BRANZ. leaving Ecan Website icon 



Research data from BRANZ’s Year 10 Household Energy End-use Project (HEEP) shows that 29% of household energy is used to heat water. Other significant end uses include space heating (34%), appliances (13%) refrigeration (10%) and the range/stove (6%).



There are many organisations that provide information, advice, assistance and incentives on home water heating. The following organisations can be useful if you are considering changes in home water heating:

Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority leaving Ecan Website icon (EECA) is a government agency that promotes energy efficiency and renewable energy in New Zealand.

The Solar Industries Association leaving Ecan Website icon is the ‘parent’ body of solar water heating system suppliers and installers and there is a list of members (including 6 from Christchurch) online.

SmarterHomes leaving Ecan Website icon (2007) is a site to promulgate information about healthy, affordable homes for better living.
