1 July 2008
New Aerial Photography: New
aerial ortho-photography has been added to the system for the Hanmer Basin area.
The extent of coverage now in the system for Canterbury (and a rough guide to the
age of the photography) is shown on the right. Clicking on the picture will display
a more detailed version of that map as a pdf [509kB].
According to our imagery supplier, photography covering much of the area that is not yet available will be begin to be delivered late in the year. We will make every effort to make it available within this system as soon after we receive it as possible.
New Layers: Several layers have been added to the site. These layers include "Wetlands of Regional Importance", "Sites of Special Wildlife Importance", "Recommended Areas for Protection", "Land of National Significance", "Land of Regional Significance", "River and open water habitats for indigenous birds" and "Significant vegetation of Canterbury water bodies". These layers have been added primarily for resource consent application purposes.
Old version phased out: The older version of the online GIS available at this site has been phased out and the link removed. The layers that were available in that version are part of what was called the new version. The only layer that is not available is the older aerial photography, but that has been superseded by the newer aerial photography.
Browser Compatibility: This version of GIS has been designed for and tested using Microsoft Internet Explorer. While it is viewable in other browsers such as Mozilla Firefox, some features of the application may not function because of browser compatibility issues. Hopefully some of these browser compatibility problems may be addressed in future revisions.
