Buying a rural property in Canterbury?

Worried about flood risk, resource consents, ground contamination?

Order a Land Information Report now...

To help you make a decision on any property, check with Environment Canterbury to see what information is held on the natural and physical resources relevant to your property.
This could include:

  • resource consents
  • wells
  • groundwater quality and availability
  • flooding
  • river flows and surface water quality
  • earthquake/natural hazards
  • plant and animal pest enforcement issues
  • contaminated sites, a request for information solely about the contamination status of a land parcel will be dealt with free of charge.

You can request this information by:

  1. Completing the online land information request form, and click the submit button. You will receive an email confirming your request.
  2. Visiting Environment Canterbury (Christchurch and Timaru), to make a request in person.
  3. Printing out the PDF File Land Information Request form and posting to Environment Canterbury. P O Box 345, Christchurch; or faxing to  [03] 365-3194

Please allow up to 10 working days for this report to be completed.

Payment of $150 + GST [$168.75] must be made on application, except for account holders, see below.

Accepted methods of payment are:

  • EFT-POS currently only available at our Kilmore Street office
  • Credit card currently only available at our Kilmore Street office or over the phone
  • Cheque
  • Cash


Businesses that order Land Information Reports on a regular basis can apply for a billing account. Please contact Customer Services for more information on 03 353 9007 or 0800 ECINFO (0800 324 636). Account holders will be invoiced payable by the 20th of each month.
