Canterbury Active Transport (CAT) Forum

The NZ National Transport Strategy 2002  recognises the importance of developing transport systems that are sustainable, safe and protect and promote public health. Cycling and walking are not only an integral part of a sustainable transport system but also hold economic and health benefits to individuals and communities in both rural and urban settings. The Canterbury Active Transport (CAT) forum was set up to encourage information sharing and cross sector action in Canterbury between agencies with an interest in Active Transport including representatives from such sectors as education, environment, health and disability, recreation, sport, tourism, transport and local and national government.

The CAT forum aims to work in collaboration with the Canterbury Regional Transport Active Transport Working Group (ATWG) which was established under the auspices of the Regional Land Transport Committee (RLTC). The CAT forum Terms of Reference (see link below) were developed to complement and strengthen the functions of the ATWG. The CAT forums are held quarterly with the inaugural CAT forum being held in early 2007 on the 15th February. Please follow the links below for the agenda, minutes and presentations from the following forums.
