About the NRRP

The Natural Resources Regional Plan (NRRP) addresses sustainable management of natural resources in the Canterbury Region. The NRRP consists of eight chapters.

The first three chapters, an Overview, Ngai Tahu and the Management of Natural Resources, and Air Quality, were "Proposed” in June 2002. These chapters have been through a public submission and hearing process and Council Decisions were released in September 2007. The appeal period has closed, however a number of appeals were made. Those parts of Chapters 1-3 that have not be appealed, and that are not affected by any apeals, may become operative.

Chapters 4-8 were proposed by way of variation (Variation 1), to the NRRP, on 3 July 2004. These chapters deal with land and water management. Hearings on Variation 1 commenced in September 2006 and will continue to late 2008.

All chapters are currently "Proposed"

Variations/Changes

As noted above, Variation 1 proposed the addition of chapters 4- 8 to the NRRP in 2004. Since 2004 a number of additional variations have been proposed to the NRRP on Chapters 3, 4 and 5.  To see a copy of Chapters 4 and 5 incorporating the varations, click here.

All variations go through a submission/further submission, hearings, decisions and appeals process, for guidance on this process click here. For more information on each variation, including which stage of the process each particular variation is at, please click on the link to all variations below.

It is noted that once a chapter of the NRRP becomes operative any "variation" on that chapter will become a "change".

The following variations have been notified recently:
