As team leader you are responsible for a team of six science staff ranging from graduates through to experienced groundwater scientists. Each day you work closely with the team, providing guidance and mentoring, technical and strategic direction and acting as a sounding board for ideas and issues. Your people skills and groundwater science background will come to the fore in managing this technically focussed team.
We are currently working on a range of projects aimed at improving our knowledge of Canterbury’s groundwater resources and how they interact with surface water. We are in a time where we have very real opportunities to review the way groundwater is managed and align this with our best knowledge in each area.
Each team member is responsible for a particular geographic area of the region. In that capacity they provide technical advice and undertake investigations to develop knowledge aimed at informing best-practice water management. Some key aspects of our investigations include:

As team leader you will have a hand in all of this work and more. You will facilitate the team in delivering quality scientific outputs in a timely manner. You will be in a position to develop a strategic understanding of groundwater in Canterbury and you will lead the team in anticipating and responding to the information needs of key stakeholders including, in-house planners, CWMS zone committees and the community.
