Find out more about the Honda TreeFund here, including a link to further information and an online application form.
Ten native trees are funded for every new car that Honda New Zealand sells, with another three funded by your local Honda dealer. These funds are awarded to Regional Councils throughout the country to assist with native plantings.
$23,810 from the Honda TreeFund will be awarded to the Canterbury region during the 2011/12 financial year to the best community-based native planting projects.
In contrast to Environment Enhancement Fund, the Honda TreeFund is available to spend on native plants only, with no requirement for them to necessarily contribute to biodiversity values. Projects on public land may be considered under the Honda TreeFund criteria.
To qualify for the Honda TreeFund, projects must use New Zealand native trees to support any of the following:
- Establishment of native tree populations (trees + required protecting cover)
- Water run-off control
- Erosion control
- Regional parks or other planting for beautification
- Biodiversity protection and restoration
- Urban stream enhancement
- Coastal protection and restoration planting
- The Cancer Society SunSmart Schools Accreditation Programme.
