Environment Canterbury has three main workstreams that contribute to indigenous biodiversity in Canterbury. These are:

1. Work carried out under the Immediate Steps Programme, which provides funding for biodiversity projects as an integrated part of the Canterbury Water Management Strategy.
2. Work to further the objectives as agreed in the Canterbury Biodiversity Strategy, this includes biodiversity projects funded through the Environment Enhancement Fund.
3. The Wilding Conifer control programme

Other Environment Canterbury programmes that support the above include work under the Canterbury Regional Pest Management Strategy. A number of pests are a particular threat to indigenous biodiversity, most notably wilding conifers.
