Waimakariri River Regional Park caters for a diverse range of activities and events such as:
Meridian Energy Kids Bike Jam
This event is held out at McLeans Forest mountain bike park and is organised by Blue Light, designed to get more children active and on bikes. This event attracts around 1500 people each year and is growing.
Clarkville Classic Duathlon
The Clarkville School PTA organise and run this event. They utilise our mountain bike and running tracks at Kaiapoi Island. 2009 was its first year running and was very successful - turning it into an annual fundraising event for the school.
World Jet Boat Marathon
Jet boating has always been a popular pastime on the Waimakariri River. In 2009, the World Jet Boat Marathon was held on the river. This event attracts people from South America, USA and Europe. The river really came alive with swarms of people wanting to view the action.
National Finals enduro event
This is off-roading at its finest, with home built off-road vehicles racing through our forestry. This is a race that occurs bi-annually and is hosted by the Canterbury Off-Road Club
Airsoft Nationals 2010
This is a form of army game becoming more and more popular, with the local club hosting the national championship event this Easter on their leased site at Miners Bank Road.

Clubs
There are many clubs who utilise our venues within the park, such as Peninsula and Plains Orienteering Club, Alaskan Malamute Club, Canterbury Secondary Schools Mountain Bike Club and North Canterbury Cycle Club just to name a few.
For many years, there has been a number of Clubs and commercial businesses based out on McLeans Island Road. With the establishment of the Waimakariri River Regional Park, they were all included within the park's boundaries. These leaseholders hold numerous events.
