Hide Spraying Ltd, a Rangiora based company operates in agricultural spraying, spreading and sheep dipping. The company was started in 1947 by the late Ellis Hide and is still a family owned business more than a half century later.
Graham and Andrew Hide have over 65 years experience between them, and are both experts in the field of agrichemical spaying as well as being registered assessors for The Agrichemical Spraying Industry. Hide Spraying operates in areas from Christchurch north to Culverden and from the coast to Oxford. They are fully registered chemical applicators and Infratrain registered assessors and also operate the local Agrecovery Recycling depot.

In April 2007 a Pollution Prevention Officer from Environment Canterbury approached Hide Spraying to get involved in the Pollution Prevention Programme (PPP). Hide Spraying were praised on their chemical storage facilities and the advice was given to them on how to make their fuel storage top notch.
Using Graham and Andrew’s knowledge and experience in the agricultural spraying industry and the Pollution Prevention Officers background on the RMA, NRRP and HSNO good practices, both worked together to ensure that Hide Spraying were skilled on the best and environmentally friendly ways of chemical and fuel storage.
Since joining the programme Hide Spraying staff are more aware of possible pollution issues and are aware of what is needed and expected when it comes to fuel storage.
“It’s all about preventing pollution events in the environment, focussing on getting the basics right and setting everyone on the right track for dealing with any issues that may arise,” says Andrew Hide.

“Getting our head around the programme, implementing and changing the some of our procedures regarding fuel storage was a challenge.”
Hide Spraying’s fuel storage areas has been upgraded since learning more about best practice and procedures for fuel storage. They are always looking to improve their practices and keep on top of chemical and fuel storage. Looking forward they hope to continue with the work they are doing and keep and eye out for any changing legislation that may affect their business.
It is also important to Hide Spraying that they promote the benefits of the Pollution Prevention Programme and Agrecovery container collection to all their clients so that they are able to benefit from the programme like they have.
