Secondary containment, sometimes called a bund, is a second line of defence around storage tanks/drums preventing leaks and spills contaminating the environment.
What you can do:
- Make sure the secondary containment is big enough.
- Check secondary containment requirements under the Hazardous Substance and New Organisms Act (HSNO).
- Ensure regular inspection and maintenance.
- Make a reliable staff member responsible for inspecting and draining clean storm water from outdoor secondary containment.
- Look for staining and evidence of leaks and ALWAYS check the correct procedures are followed for emptying storm water.
