As part of their consent conditions regarding the exploratory drilling for hydrocarbons near the Kate Valley landfill in 2008, Green Gate Limited was required to provide the results of the drilling to Environment Canterbury. The Kate-1 end of well report was received in August 2009.
The operators of the landfill, Transwaste Canterbury Limited, engaged geologist Mark Yetton of Geotech Consulting Limited to review new information within the Green Gate report about the geology underlying the site and new geological research undertaken since 2002 to determine whether any changes to the landfill design were required.
