At a Council meeting held on 24 September 2009, the Canterbury Regional Council approved the following parts of the proposed Canterbury Natural Resources Regional Plan:

• Chapter 1 Overview, is operative in part from 27 October 2009;
• Chapter 2 Ngai Tahu and the management of natural resources, is operative in full from 27 October 2009; and
• Chapter 3 Air quality, is operative in part from 27 October 2009.
