Free buses Anzac Day Timaru

Published: 22/04/2009 9:58 a.m.

This Saturday, Anzac Day, all Metro bus services in Timaru– Gleniti, Marchwiel, Grantlea and South End - are free for everyone.

“In the past, Environment Canterbury has offered free bus services on Anzac Day just for returned servicemen but we are expanding it this year to all residents,” says ECan South Canterbury Cr Bronwen Murray.

“This is a great way to encourage people who want to attend Anzac Day services to do so on the bus. As part of the Timaru Metro Strategy Review, we will also have staff on board to ask people what they think of the experience."

The buses run hourly from 9am to 4pm.

The main Timaru civic service for Anzac Day is at the South Canterbury RSA, 21 Wai-iti Road at 10am. The marchers assemble just before 10am
outside the Aigantighe Art Gallery, arriving at the RSA in time to start by 10.15am, with the service finishing around 11am. Members of the public are welcome in to the RSA after the 10am service.

The Dawn Service is at 6 am at the War Memorial on Queen St, by the Timaru Hospital.
