Metro Service Review: North East and South West Christchurch bus routes

Published: 14/07/2009 9:22 a.m.

Residents in the north-east and south-west of Christchurch will have the opportunity to discuss a range of proposals aimed at improving public transport in their areas during the next five weeks.

Environment Canterbury’s Metro Service Review 2009 outlines proposed changes for each of twelve bus routes. This follows a round of public consultation during recent months in which residents were asked what they think of Metro services in their area and what changes and improvements they would like to see introduced.

The services being reviewed are: 5 Hornby-Southshore, 40 Wainoni, 46 Shirley, 49 North Shore, 51 Tower Junction-New Brighton, 60 Parklands, 70 Queenspark, 81 Lincoln, 83 Hei Hei-Burwood, 84 Russley-Avondale, B City-Hornby-Burnham, 520 Hornby-Burnham (via Rolleston), and, 521 Hornby-Templeton.

Wayne Holton-Jeffreys, manager passenger services, is encouraging residents to provide feedback on the proposals so that Environment Canterbury can continue to improve public transport.

“Service reviews such as this enable Environment Canterbury to learn about people’s travel habits, what they want from their bus services and how we can meet changing transport needs. This review also provides an opportunity for us to examine how each route is functioning and to attract new Metro users.”

Brochures have been delivered to homes in the south-west and north-east this week with a freepost feedback form enclosed and all responses go in the draw to win one of ten $30 Metrocard top-up vouchers.

Environment Canterbury is also setting up displays at venues around the city to give residents an opportunity to talk to staff and learn more about what is being proposed. These are as follows:

Wednesday July 15, New Brighton Library, 10am-3pm,
Thursday July 16, Eastgate Mall, 10am-4pm,
Friday July 17 and July 20, Bus Exchange, am-9am and 3pm-6pm (both days),
Wednesday July 22, Shirley Library and Service Centre, 10am-4pm,
Thursday July 23, QEII Park, 10am-2pm,
Friday July 24, Upper Riccarton Library, 10am-3pm,
Monday July 27, The Hub Hornby, 10am-3pm,
Tuesday 28 July, Rolleston Library, 10am-3pm, and
Thursday 30 July, Lincoln Library, 10am-3pm.

Feedback received from the public will be analysed and if supported, the improvements will commence from June 2010. Copies of the review and feedback forms are available by calling Metroinfo on 366 88 55 or online at http://www.metroinfo.org.nz/metroServiceReview09.html
