Air emission inventory reports

These reports describe the results of air emissions inventories for the following Canterbury urban centres. They provide estimates of quantities of specific contaminants discharged into the air and the main sources of these emissions. Emission inventories are used in conjunction with air quality monitoring data and results of meteorological investigations to assess the effectiveness of different options for managing air quality.

Inventory of emissions to air in regional Canterbury towns, 2007 (3089 KB)
The 2007 Canterbury Regional Towns emission inventory aims to: provide information about the sources of air pollution in Rangiora, Kaiapoi, Ashburton, Geraldine and Waimate; establish the contribution to total emissions from the sources identified; determine trends in emissions where possible; compare the results with previous inventories; and provide data at an hourly resolution for modelling purposes. The information provided in the inventory may be used by air quality professionals and regulators to monitor effectiveness and appropriateness of future strategies which may be considered in order to meet the NES standards. It may also identify those areas or sources where additional action is required.

Christchurch: Inventory of emissions to air in Christchurch, 2006 (4207 KB)
The main objective of an emission inventory is to list, by source, the mass of airborne pollutants discharged into the air within a defined area. They are used by regulatory authorities to identify air pollution problems, assess the effectiveness of air pollution policy, and provide data that may be used in airshed modelling.

Inventory of emissions to air in Timaru and Washdyke, 2005 (R06/42) (1915 KB)
An assessment of emissions to air in Timaru and Washdyke was carried out in 2005 to determine the contribution of different source types to airshed contaminants. Air pollutants assessed were particulate matter less than ten, and less than two and a half microns in diameter (PM10 and PM2.5), carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NOx), oxides of sulphur (SOx) and benzene. For the first time, emissions are presented on a weekday, weekend day and hourly basis to provide data that may be more readily used for modelling purposes.

Christchurch Inventory of Air Emissions 2002 (2125 KB)
Emissions to air in Christchurch are reassessed on a regular basis to monitor trends over time and to determine changes in the relative contribution of sources to emissions. The 2002 inventory presents emissions to air for a "typical winter's day" for the area within the Christchurch territorial boundary, and 3 sub-areas.

Christchurch Inventory of Air Emissions 1999 (978 KB)
This report details the results of the 1999 Christchurch emission inventory. This inventory is the second major investigation into sources of emissions to air for Christchurch. The purpose of the 1999 emission inventory was to review the contribution of different sources to emissions of contaminants and to assess changes in emission sources since 1996. An additional objective was to examine emissions in a larger study area and to assess domestic heating emissions in the areas of Templeton, Sumner and Belfast.
