Environment Canterbury (ECan) land under lease can not be sold because it is Crown land vested into Environment Canterbury. However it can be transferred between lessees with Environment Canterbury’s prior written consent. Licenses are not transferrable as of right but ECan can consent to a transfer. Licenses are short-term tenancies, usually close to rivers and are usually occupied by adjoining freehold land owners.
