Access to river beds in Canterbury is subject to landowners permission where the river beds are on private land. To be sure who owns the area of riverbed you want to enter you will need to search the title by phoning LINZ (Land Information New Zealand) 03-379 9793. River beds in the Waimakariri River Regional Park and the Ashley River/Rakahuri can be entered without permission.
