Yes - as long as your property is zoned rural, there is no winter fire ban, or territorial authority summer fire ban for your area, or no sensitive activity 100 metres downwind or 50 metres in any other direction from your fire, and as long as you only burn vegetation (including stubble and crop residue), paper, cardboard and untreated wood.
Sensitive activities include schools, hospitals, parks, residential areas and any public amenity area or place of public assembly.
Outdoor burning on Rangiora, Kaiapoi,Christchurch and Ashburton rural properties located within a Clean Air Zone is not permitted without a resource consent from Environment Canterbury during the winter fire ban. The outdoor winter fire bans runs between 1 May to 31 August each year.
If your property is located within 1 kilometer of land owned by the Department of Conservation you will need to seek approval from them as well.
