Environment Canterbury owns huge areas of riverbeds. Gamebird shooting is generally permitted in riverbed areas belonging to Environment Canterbury. However rabbit and possum shooting is prohibited on Environment Canterbury land.

Game bird hunting is also allowed in the Waimakariri River Regional Park but there are certain restrictions to where you can shoot.  To shoot rabbits, possums or game birds on Environment Canterbury leased land you must get prior permission of the lease holder.
