In the Waimakariri River Regional Park dogs can be walked without a leash as long as they are controlled. However there are following restrictions:

• Baynons and Poynter Nature Walk are dogs on leash only areas. Designated motorcycle areas are no dog zones.
• Dogs are prohibited on the McLeans Forest mountain bike track.
• Gamebird dogs only in Te Rauakaaka Nature Reserve (Saltmarsh) and only during the hunting season.
• Christchurch City Council, Selwyn District Council and Waimakariri District Council dog bylaws apply.

Please respect the needs of river birds for safe breeding and roosting areas by keeping your dog on the leash. There are severe penalties for the disturbance of wildlife.
