Environment Canterbury leased land is administered by the Environment Canterbury Property, Parks and Forests section. Some areas within the Environment Canterbury farm leases have been identified as conservation areas. Their role is to ensure the survival of rare plant and animal communities.
These conservation areas are managed by the Property, Parks and Forests section but may still be grazed depending on the conservation goals. Current management techniques range from stock fencing, rabbit-proof fencing, grazing management and pest control, to planting of rare plants to enhance and rehabilitate areas.
A management plan is currently being developed.
