Environment Canterbury does recognise that if you have a maintenance contract to keep your septic tank functioning at its optimal level you are minimising an environmental impact of your discharge.

 

However any private arrangements you may have with a contractor (such as Oasis) and any consent with a District Council  are distinctly separate from the resource consent you have for discharging wastewater obtained through the regional council, Environment Canterbury.

Compliance monitoring is necessary to ensure you meet the conditions of your consent which in turn safeguards our environment. As a responsible environmental guardian, Environment Canterbury is the statutory body under the Resource Management Act to carry out this regulatory function.

 

The Annual Compliance charge is for costs associated with ongoing consent management responsibilities which include the administration, supervision and maintenance of resource consents.  It is not for physical compliance monitoring on site visits/inspections
