The electricity supply can be unreliable in some rural areas, however air pollution is not usually a problem outside residential areas. On properties greater than 2 hectare you can install any form of heating you like.
On smaller properties you may install a low-emission woodburner or woodburner, a gas heater or a diesel burner that does not require electricity to operate. You may also install a heater that needs electricity and keep your old woodburner or open fire for emergency use.
If you want to take advantage of the Clean Heat subsidies and/or interest-free loans in Rangiora, Kaiapoi and Ashburton you may be required to remove your existing heating.
