AMF stands for the Latin term " ad medium filium". AMF rights refer to a general principle in common law that, where a river abuts a property and connection is not interrupted by a legal road,
in the absence of evidence to the contrary, the title to the land that is bounded by a non-tidal river or stream extends to the middle line of the river.
This situation is more prevalent in South Island braided rivers.
