Only individuals or groups proposing environmentally sustainable projects on private, customary or coastal land are eligible.  Not eligible: research projects; projects which are required by or are the responsibility of a government agency. Projects must clearly benefit indigenous biodiversity and enhance the health of the wider ecosystems in the region. Projects that focus on protecting significant existing habitats and ecosystems and that maintain linkages between indigenous habitats.

Projects most likely to meet criteria are:
-  Projects that protect existing high value habitats - e.g. fencing of an existing vegetation remnant.

-  Projects that restore the natural character of degraded indigenous habitats and ecosystems. For example fencing of native bush; weed management ; fencing and planting of a wetland.
