In the Waimakariri River Regional Park, game bird hunting is allowed only in designated areas.
There are time restrictions in some locations from dawn to 9am because of conflict with other park users. Areas with time restrictions include Poynter Nature Reserve, Monopolis Pond and Sanctuary.
In Te Rauakaaka Nature Reserve (saltmarsh)hunting is limited to the times between dawn and 7am and 3pm to dusk.
However there are certain areas in the Waimakariri River Regional Park where game bird hunting is prohibited because of conflicts with other park users. These are the Days Run and Wrights Cut sections of the Kaiapoi Island area and McLeans Forest.
