When a woodburner manufacturer wishes to sell a particular model of wood burner in Christchurch they must submit information to Environment Canterbury to prove that their burner meets our emission standards.
If Environment Canterbury is satisfied that the burner complies with the emission standards the woodburner is issued with an Authorisation number which is valid for 5 years.
This Authorisation number allows the woodburner to be installed in Canterbury homes for the period of the authorisation. Once the Authorisation has expired that model will no longer be able to be installed.
Normally when an Authorisation expires the woodburner manufacturer will reapply to state that that model still meets our emission standards and a new Authorisation number will be issued.
