The Natural Resources Regional Plan Change Number One and Variation 16(Rangiora) cover the provisions for emergency use of open fires and old wood burners when there is an emergency power outage.
This changes allows home owners in Christchurch, Ashburton, Kaiapoi and Rangiora to use open fires and old woodburners which would normally be banned if there is a disruption to the electricity supply.
The definition of emergency use is a planned network outage of more than 3 hours or a power outage where there is no warning.
