There are currently night gates in the lower portion of the Waimakariri River Regional Park from Miners Bank Road downstream.
There are 6 nightgates on the south bank of the river at following locations:
- Intersection Miners Bank/Chattertons Road/McLeans Island Road
- McLeans Forest Main Entrance
- Corner Haul Road and McLeans Island Road
- Coutts Island Road (west) near the intersection of Templars Island Road
- Intersection of Lorimas Road and Coutts Island Road
- Coutts Island Road (east), east of monument corner
There are two nightgates on the north bank of the river at following locations:
- Intersection of Taylors Roads and ECans “Hays Road”
- “Browns Ramp” which is the main entrance to Kaiapoi Island off Wrights Road, near the Old Main North Road bridge
