In the Waimakariri River Regional Park there are plenty of lovely spots, which are suitable for picnicking. Large areas are provided for this purpose at the McLeans Island, Templars Island and Kaiapoi Island entrances. Several areas at Kaiapoi Island are suited, for example along Smith Stream south of Taylors Road, between Monopolis Pond and Poynter Nature Reserve and also along Poynter Nature Walk.
