Environment Canterbury's Clean Heat Project was started in response to air pollution problems in Christchurch, Kaiapoi, Rangiora, Ashburton, and Timaru.
Update 27 May 2011
From 1 July 2011, the Clean Heat Project will cease to operate in Christchurch. No further appointments for Christchurch can now be scheduled.
Environment Canterbury will contact those who made an appointment before 22 February 2011 and have not been assessed to determine if homeowners can still proceed.
If there is structural damage that affects your property’s primary source of heating, you can call the EQC on 0800 DAMAGE (0800 326 243) or e-mail heating@eqr.co.nz
If there is no structural damage to your property and you would like to consider more efficient and cleaner heating, you may be eligible for assistance through EECA's Warm Up New Zealand:HeatSmart programme. Please contact EECA on 0800 358676 for information and/or assistance.
Clean Heat in rural towns
Environment Canterbury is working with its local council partners on a joint approach to create a revised air quality programme for Timaru, Kaiapoi, Rangiora and Ashburton that makes use of the central government-funded WarmUp New Zealand programme and other household incentives currently available in combination with ongoing education and publicity. Until new programmes have been developed, we are not making new appointments for the time being.
