Voting in the local body elections closed on 8 October 2022. Official results can be found below. The inaugural meeting of the Council will be held on Thursday 27 October.

About the election

City, district, and regional councils in Waitaha/Canterbury play a broad range of roles taking responsibility for the social, cultural, environmental and economic well-being of their communities.

Elections are conducted every three years by postal vote. The regional council election was first-past-the-post with candidate names listed on voting papers in random order. Voting closed at noon on Saturday 8 October 2022.

Only those on the parliamentary electoral roll were able to vote. You can enrol or check and update your details at any time at vote.nz(external link).
