About the election
City, district, and regional councils in Waitaha/Canterbury play a broad range of roles taking responsibility for the social, cultural, environmental and economic well-being of their communities.
Elections are conducted every three years by postal vote. The regional council election was first-past-the-post with candidate names listed on voting papers in random order. Voting closed at noon on Saturday 8 October 2022.
Only those on the parliamentary electoral roll were able to vote. You can enrol or check and update your details at any time at vote.nz(external link).
