Environment Canterbury had received the following application for resource consent.

CRC156319 – Variation of activity to divert/take and use water currently authorised under consent CRC981619.1

The applicant is an irrigation scheme that provides water for irrigation and holds existing water permit CRC981619.1. The applicant proposes to change the activity currently authorised by consent CRC981619.1 in order to increase the area of land irrigated from 4,000 hectares to 7,658 hectares. Consent CRC981619.1 currently authorises the diversion and/or taking of surface water from the Ohau River at a rate not exceeding 4,000 litres per second and a volume not exceeding 51,626,000 cubic metres in any period between 1 September and the following 31 May. Water is taken from a point of take on the Ohau River located at or about map reference Topo50 BZ15:5889-9328 for the irrigation of a maximum of 4,000 hectares of land.

No additional water is sought from that already authorised under consent CRC981619.1.

The location of the water take is at the existing Ohau River take point, approximately three kilometres downstream of Lake Ohau. No changes are proposed to the point of take.

The proposed additional irrigation area is located on multiple parcels of land located north of Omarama on State Highway 8 between the Ohau River and the Ahuriri River and is fully within the command area of consent CRC981619.1.

A consent expiry of 17 February 2034 is sought (same expiry date of existing water permit CRC981619.1).

CRC156320 – Discharge permit to discharge nutrients to land from farming activities.

The applicant is an irrigation scheme that provides water for irrigation to a number of shareholder farms.

The proposed activity is to discharge nutrients to land from farming activities where they may enter water. The applicant seeks consent to irrigate a total of 7,658 hectares (the current irrigation area is 4,000 hectares).

The location of the activity is on multiple parcels of land located north of Omarama on State Highway 8 between the Ohau River and the Ahuriri River.

A consent expiry of 17 February 2034 is sought.
