The Canterbury Regional Council and Ashburton District Council have received an application from Barrhill Chertsey Irrigation Limited for a suite of resource consents to construct, maintain and operate a water storage facility to store up to 1.6 million cubic metres at 577 Barkers Road, Methven.  The water storage facility will be located adjacent to Barkers Road, at or about map reference Topo50 BX21:9428-7235. Water from the facility is intended to improve the reliability of the already consented Barrhill Chertsey Irrigation Scheme.

Canterbury Regional Council

CRC173284 –    a land use permit to excavate and deposit material over an unconfined/semi confined aquifer.

CRC173285 –    a water permit to dam up to 1.6 million cubic metres of water outside of the riverbed.

CRC173286 –    a water permit to take groundwater for dewatering purposes during construction of the dam.

CRC173287 – a discharge permit to discharge construction-phase stormwater and dewatering water to land.

CRC173288 – a discharge permit to discharge fugitive dust from bulk earthworks and contaminants from internal combustion equipment to air.

CRC173289 – a discharge permit to discharge seepage water to land originating from water stored in the dam.   

CRC173285 and CRC173289 have a proposed duration of 35 years while CRC173284, CRC173286, CRC173287 and CRC173288 have a proposed duration of 5 years.

Ashburton District Council

LUC16-0110 – a land use permit for the establishment and operation of a 1.6 million cubic metre storage facility at 577 Barkers Road, Methven including earthworks, soil disturbance and storage of hazardous substances during construction.

The proposed duration for LUC16-0110 is unlimited.

Submissions must be received by Environment Canterbury not later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday 5 April 2017
