Ravensdown Limited have applied for a discharge permit (CRC230609) to discharge contaminants to land where it may enter groundwater or and surface water.

The contaminants originate from fugitive discharges beneath Ravensdowns site located at 312 Main South Road Hornby, Christchurch legally described as Lot 1 DP 25992, Lot 1 DP 3189, Part Lot 1 DP 3910, Part Lot 6-11 DP 1391, Part Lot 1-4 DP 2899 and Lot 13-17 DP 2899. The site operates a product intake, a sulphuric acid plant, superphosphate manufacturing plant and fertiliser storage and despatching facilities. The discharge contains elevated concentrations of the following contaminants.

  1. Fluoride,  
  2. Manganese,  
  3. Nitrate-nitrogen,  
  4. Dissolved reactive phosphorus, and  
  5. Aluminium  

 Ravensdown Limited have proposed the following mitigation measures including: 

  1. site improvements over the duration of the consent;.  
  2. a site management plan;.
  3. groundwater monitoring;.
  4. annual reporting; and
  5. thresholds for reducing monitoring based on the sampling results.  

 A resource consent duration of 15 years is sought by the applicant.
