Proud to be finalists for the LGNZ Excellence awards for Environmental Well-being
On Wednesday 9 June LGNZ announced Environment Canterbury as finalists for the Air New Zealand EXCELLENCE Award for Environmental Well-being.
Our award entry was for our work on the Whakaora Te Ahuriri project; a partnership between mana whenua, community, and Environment Canterbury to develop a constructed wetland to improve water quality, mahinga kai and biodiversity values.
The Whakaora Te Ahuriri project sits in the Whakaora Te Waihora ecological and cultural restoration programme under the Te Waihora Co-Governance Group, and is a story of collaboration, with the aim to restore a part of a historical lagoon with cultural significance. For more information of the project, check out the project page on the Te Waihora Co-governance website.
Winners will be announced at the LGNZ conference dinner in Blenheim on 16 July.
