Help improve marine biosecurity information for boaties and mooring owners

Environment Canterbury is asking boaties and mooring owners across Canterbury to help improve how marine biosecurity information is shared.

We want to better understand which messages people notice, trust, and find useful — and which ones are easy to ignore.

This short survey focuses on communication and awareness only. It is not a compliance or enforcement exercise.

Your feedback will help improve how we communicate information about marine pests, vessel checks, inspections, haul-outs, and antifouling to recreational boat users across Canterbury.

The survey should take around 5–7 minutes to complete.

As a thank you for taking part, you can go in the draw to win a $250 Prezzy card.

Why your feedback matters

Marine biosecurity helps protect Canterbury’s harbours, coastlines, and marine environments from invasive marine pests.

Your feedback will help us make marine biosecurity information more relevant, practical, and useful for boaties and mooring owners.

What is marine biosecurity messaging?

Marine biosecurity messaging includes information aimed at preventing the spread of marine pests.

This can include:

  • reminders to check vessels for marine pests
  • information about pest species, such as Mediterranean fanworm
  • requests to report pest sightings
  • notices about inspections, haul-outs, or antifouling requirement.
