Lend a hand at the Cass Bay planting day

Join the Bay community’s planting day where they aim to plant 3000 native seedlings, adding to the previous year’s effort to help reduce sedimentation in Lyttelton Harbour.

In 2020, a group of over 30 volunteers from Environment Canterbury and Conservation Volunteers NZ began planting the banks of Cass Bay Stream as part of the Whaka-Ora Healthy Harbour Catchment Plan.

Event details

We aim to continue that good work at this year's event, on Saturday 14 August, from 10am to 3pm.

Please bring gardening gloves, warm clothes and boots if the weather forecast looks poor. If it’s too wet on the day, the event will take place on 21 August.

Please park at the top of Bayview Place in Cass Bay and walk over to Steadfast, Governors Bay Road, as parking within Steadfast is limited.

There's more good news too - a sausage sizzle lunch will be provided; as will shovels to give the seedlings the best chance.

How to RSVP

We need numbers for catering purposes, so please RSVP to water@ecan.govt.nz by 13 August with your name and whether you’ll need a shovel.

A postponement email will be sent to those who have RSVP on Friday 13 August.

Whaka-Ora Healthy Harbour vision
