While winter might seem like a quiet time in Canterbury’s regional parks, it's one of the busiest seasons for restoration work. Join one of our volunteer events this winter and help plant native trees, care for local parks and give back to the places you love.
Across the regional parks we manage, volunteers, community groups and park rangers come together each winter to plant native trees, tidy public spaces and care for some of Waitaha Canterbury's favourite outdoor destinations.
Whether you're keen to get your hands dirty, meet like-minded people or simply spend a morning outdoors, volunteering is a rewarding way to give back while enjoying the natural spaces on your doorstep.
Events and Information Coordinator Gill Walsh says volunteers are at the heart of many regional park projects.
"These events are about more than planting trees or picking up rubbish. They're an opportunity to get outdoors, connect with the places we love and play a small part in caring for Canterbury's biodiversity enhancement.
"You don't need any special skills or experience to get involved. Just bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to lend a hand."

All ages are welcome, and children are the responsibility of their parents or guardians. We recommend sturdy shoes or hiking boots.
Join the ranger team and Forest & Bird North Canterbury as we extend the native plantings at The Sanctuary in Belfast. The event will wrap up by 12.30pm following the BBQ lunch!
Lend a hand planting native species in West Melton Forest and help enhance this popular regional park area for future generations. Whether you're a seasoned volunteer or giving it a go for the first time, everyone is welcome.
Celebrate World Rivers Day by joining the ranger team for a community planting event at Waikuku Beach. This is a fantastic opportunity to spend time outdoors, contribute to a local restoration project and help care for one of Canterbury's special regional parks.
