The Council reviewed its representation arrangements in 2024 and the Local Government Commission has determined, confirming arrangements that will apply for the 2025 election.
The Commission has upheld the Council’s Final Proposal, noting that it is satisfied that while not meeting population criteria, the proposed Christchurch West Ōpuna, Mid-Canterbury/Ōpākihi and South Canterbury/Ōtuhituhi constituency arrangements appropriately balance the requirements for fair and effective representation.
