Rangitata Diversion Race Management Ltd and Hekeao and Hinds Water Enhancement Trust Ltd

Rangitata Diversion Race Management Ltd (RDRML) and Hekeao/Hinds Water Enhancement Trust Limited (HHWET) seek resource consents for managed aquifer recharge and near river recharge at 37 locations, including three near river recharge sites adjacent to the Hinds River and within the Hekeao/Hinds Catchment.

Current status: The decision of the Hearing Commissioners to grant the application has been released.

Proposal summary

HHWET propose to use up to 3,200 l/s of surface water for the purpose of MAR and NRR in addition to the 500 l/s authorised for MAR under CRC210832. No additional water will be taken from the Rangitata River to support this use, with the use being managed by RDRML to ensure all consent limits of resource consent CRC182542 are met. The combined target discharge/recharge rate for the MAR and NRR sites is 3,865 l/s.

  • CRC233041: To use water from the Rangitata River for the purpose of managed aquifer recharge (including near river recharge).

Hekeao/Hinds Water Enhancement Trust Limited (HHWET) applications

  • CRC233046: To discharge managed aquifer recharge water to water and into land at 14 previously consented sites and 20 new sites.
  • CRC233851: To discharge near river recharge water to water and into land at one previously consented site.
  • CRC233853: To discharge near river recharge water to water and into land at two new sites.
  • CRC233852: To undertake works in the bed of the Hekeao/Hinds River.
  • CRC244207: To use land to enable construction of near river recharge basins and bunds.
