Timaru District Council has applied to dam and take water for community supply from the Pareora River.
Current status: The application has been notified and is open for submissions on Wednesday 28 January 2026 - 12.01am. Submissions close 5pm Thursday 26 February 2026.

CRC244314: To dam and take water from J39/0654 at or about NZTM2000: 1427999 mE – 5087220 mN, approximately 1.5 kilometres upstream of Cannington Road, at a rate not exceeding 215 litres per second, with a volume not exceeding 6,780,240 cubic metres between 01 July and the following 30 June for community supply.
At all times, a flow of at least 30 L/s shall be maintained downstream of the dam and during the months of October and November, a flow of at least 70 L/s shall be maintained downstream of the dam.

Where there are no submitters to be heard and a hearing is not required the decision-making Is undertaken by the Council committee and/or delegated staff.
