Enviroschools
Enviroschools is an environmental action-based programme where young people are empowered to design and lead sustainability projects in their schools, neighbourhoods and country.
Our role in supporting the Enviroschools network
We coordinate the Enviroschools programme in Waitaha/Canterbury, working alongside Toimata and our regional partners to create a vibrant and supportive regional Enviroschools network.
Toimata Foundation, a not-for-profit trust based in Hamilton, provides a national hub and works with local government and community agencies to build strong regional networks.
Our team of experienced facilitators guides, motivates and supports our network of schools to develop their Enviroschools journey.
The Enviroschools kaupapa is about creating a healthy, peaceful, sustainable world through teaching and learning together.
Schools can sign up to the programme for free and have access to a trained facilitator and a suite of comprehensive resources to help guide the Enviroschools journey.
Enviroschools action fund
Our Enviroschools action fund provides schools with an opportunity to gain funding up to $5000 to help them carry out actions related to their Enviroschools vision.
The Enviroschools action fund opened for applications on 5 May 2025 and closed on 30 May 2025.
Funding support: This fund is made possible by support from Christchurch City Council, Selwyn District Council, Waimakariri District Council, Kaikoura District Council, Timaru District Council, Mackenzie District Council, and Waimate District Council, as well as the Ashburton, Waimate, and South Canterbury Kindergarten Associations.
As such, it will fund schools and early childhood centres within these territorial authorities.
Eligibility and criteria: The fund is designed to support actions contributing to schools’ and centres’ Enviroschools visions. Each school can apply for up to $5,000 + GST per project, outlining how funds will be used effectively.
