Taepu Land Ltd (the applicant) has applied for resource consent to install and maintain defences against water within the bed of the Rangitata River.
The site is approximately 1.3km off the true left bank (north/eastern bank) of the Rangitata River at or about 146 Coldstream Settlement Road, Coldstream. The site is legally described as ‘Sec 4 COLDSTREAM SETTLEMENT’ and is located at NZTM 2000 1480258mE, 5110171mN.

Decision
The defences against water include 18 gravel groynes, sourced from the bed of the Rangitata River. Willow and native vegetation would be planted between the groynes to stabilise the area from erosion.
The consents applied for are:
- CRC244864 - to install and maintain erosion protection works in the bed of the Rangitata River; and to disturb the bed of the Rangitata River
- CRC244865 - to divert water within the bed of the Rangitata River
- CRC244866 - to discharge sediments into surface water
A consent duration of 35 years is sought.
