If something’s not right – report it

If you see something in the environment that doesn’t look, smell or seem right — report it.

Your call or message could prevent real harm to Waitaha Canterbury’s environment and community. Whether its discoloured water, animals in a waterway or an oily-leak into a stream getting in touch helps us act early.

Across the region our environment is protected not just by scientists and specialists, but by the public. You are our eyes and ears.

The fastest way to get the right response is to report issues directly to us, so they go straight to the teams who can help. We no longer use the Snap Send Solve app but reporting  an environmental incident is still easy.

Non-urgent environmental issue

For non-urgent issues, the fastest way to get the right response is to report it directly to us online — so it goes straight to the teams who can help.

Report an incident online

You can upload photos and details so our teams can assess what’s happening and take action.

Other ways to report odour

In some areas of Canterbury, including Ōtautahi Christchurch and northern Timaru/Washdyke, people also help track offensive odours using the Smelt‑it app – logging when and where they noticed a smell so our teams can combine community experience with scientific data.

You don’t need to be an expert. You don’t need to know the cause. If something seems wrong, that’s reason enough to report it.
